San Diego Flood Emergency: What to Do (And What NOT to Do) Right Now
Safety First”
I’ve spent 18 years as a plumber here in San Diego, and I’ve seen how a few minutes of panic can turn a bad leak into a dangerous situation. Before you call me or my partners at Quick Dry, read this:
The ‘Dry Floor’ Rule: Never touch your breaker box or any electrical switch if you are standing in water or on a damp floor. If the panel is in a wet area, stay out. Call the utility company or the fire department to cut the power from the outside. Treat all standing water as ‘live’ until proven otherwise.
Don’t Wrench the Main (Yet): If you can reach your main water shut-off safely and without entering deep water, turn it clockwise to stop the flow. If it’s stuck, don’t force it—wait for a pro.
Ventilation vs. Containment: If the water is ‘clean’ (like a supply line), open the windows. If it’s ‘black’ or ‘gray’ water (sewage backup), shut the doors and stay away. Breathing in those contaminants is a health risk you don’t need to take.
We’ve spent years forming loyal and dependable relationships with restoration crews who use industrial-grade thermal imaging and extraction. We do things the right way—the San Diego way.”
I’ve seen how the older plumbing in Vista’s residential loops can go from a ‘drip’ to a ‘disaster’ overnight. Having worked these neighborhoods for 18 years, I know that when a pipe bursts here, it’s not just about the water—it’s about the unique structural layouts of our North County homes. We don’t just extract water; we protect the integrity of the house.
